چکیده

Background Longitudinal dynamic changes of myocardial ischemic injury determine left ventricular (LV) remodelling. Using conventional clinical cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, the registration of short axis (SA) images for comparison of imaging findings at different time points is aided by the application of the same protocol to consistently identify the atrio-ventricular (AV) groove and SA planes. We hypothesise that, discrepancies in the selection of short and long axis planes lead to significant differences in location and angle between SA slices manually identified as corresponding in two studies of the same patient.

Effects of slice orientation on reproducibility of sequential assessment of right ventricular volumes and ejection fraction: short-axis vs transverse SSFP cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Test-retest reproducibility is of utmost importance in follow-up of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function; optimal slice orientation though is not yet known. We compared test-retest reproducibility and intra-/inter-observer variability of right ventricular (RV) volumes and function assessed with short-axis and transverse cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). METHODS Eighte...

Comparison of long and short axis quantification of left ventricular volume parameters by cardiovascular magnetic resonance, with ex-vivo validation

BACKGROUND The purpose of the study was to compare the accuracy and evaluation time of quantifying left ventricular (LV), left atrial (LA) volume and LV mass using short axis (SAX) and long axis (LAX) methods when using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 12 explanted canine hearts and 46 patients referred for CMR (29 male, age 47 ± 18 years) in a clinica...

Inter-study reproducibility of cardiovascular magnetic resonance tagging

BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to determine the test-retest reliability of the measurement of regional myocardial function by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) tagging using spatial modulation of magnetization. METHODS Twenty-five participants underwent CMR tagging twice over 12 ± 7 days. To assess the role of slice orientation on strain measurement, two healthy volunteers had a fi...

The necessity for full ventricular coverage with noncontrast T1 mapping in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

Background Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a genetic heart disease characterized by diverse phenotypic expression. T1 mapping is a novel CMR imaging sequence aimed at characterizing abnormal myocardial substrate. Current protocols obtain a mean T1 value derived from a single mid-LV short axis slice (single slice protocol) or three short-axis locations: apical, mid-LV and basal (three slice...

Quantitative assessment of left ventricular mechanical dyssynchrony using cine cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging: Inter-study reproducibility

OBJECTIVES To determine the inter-study reproducibility of left ventricular (LV) mechanical dyssynchrony measures based on standard cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cine images. DESIGN Steady-state free precession (SSFP) LV short-axis stacks and three long-axes were acquired on the same day at three time points. Circumferential strain systolic dyssynchrony indexes (SDI), area-SDI as we...
